ALTERNATES

In a neighborhood of the city of Ubud in Bali, part of the culture has disappeared. Alternates is a VR story that explores the consequences of that disappearance.

Mid 2020, atop an unfinished house, a presumably crazy man imagines what his family and the neighborhood would be, if Bali had taken the same path as neighbor Java and seems to have lost its cultural foundations.

In that alternate reality, a young woman practices an ancient dance forbidden in Indonesia after decades of Sharia authority, in that reality.

Amidst gentrification, she tries to harmonize her passion with the social and political pressure of the neighborhood. But the sudden eruption of the sacred mountain that influenced people's life for centuries reminds us that Nature does not change much and that some traditions find a way to resist.
